Wood Ducks

Arguably the most colorful bird in North America, ,Wood Ducks can be found in most states across the country and tend to prefer wooded, swampy areas where they nest in hollow trees or human-provided wood boxes equipped with predator barriers.  As with most ducks and many birds in general,  the drakes are easily distinguishable from the hens by their much more colorful plumage. - These wood ducks were encountered in what I would have considered an unlikely location - the desert valley near Bakersfield, California, along with of couple of other common wetlands inhabitants....
